[The sigh Lena replies with isn't exaggerated. It's not even fair to call it theatric. It's outright scenery chewing, her body slumping back against the couch, her whole body melting into it like a deflated balloon.]

Bloody hell, you kept me home so I'd make you dinner. You're sneaky.

[Truth be told, Lena adores cooking for Emily, even if her skills in the kitchen are aggressively mediocre at best. There's something magical about making a meal for the one you love, and the affection that goes into the meal hopefully makes up for what it lacks in taste.]

Well then, out with it. What did you want tonight?

No, I kept you home because I missed you. [Correction.] But I wouldn't mind.

[Emily was usually the one who cooked dinner, but she'll always appreciate when Lena cooks for her. Has she ate better food? Sure. But it didn't matter to her. The gesture was enough for her that she would happily eat Lena's cooking any time.]

Hmm... I don't have anything in mind. [Getting up to grab an apron and put it on.] But we can figure it out together.

Hmmm. Well then, let's see what we've got!

[No apron for Lena, thanks to the chronal accelerator still being firmly in place. She could slip it into the charger once they'd finished cooking, be free from it for a little while longer.]

[The usual staples are present. Fish, beef, chicken, along with a pantry full of veggies and sauces that are ready to make dinner. While Lena is partial to pub fare, one doesn't spend time around an international team without expanding their palate a little.]

Realize this sounds silly given I was all set to do some heroing, but I'd really rather keep the dirty dishes to a minimum. Rather avoid pruny fingers if I can!

And here I thought I was the picky one. [Playfully nudging her.]

Since you're not home as often, I'll let you decide what we make then.

[She huffs, jutting her jaw out.]

I'm not being picky, love. I'm being lazy. I was knackered before I begged off tonight, y'know.

[A quick peek in the fridge.] Betcha I could whip up a pretty tasty stir fry. That way we can pretend to be healthy... until we have dessert.

I could always make it for you, you know. [She'll give her a small chuckle.] Sounds like stir fry it is then!

But if I sit out making dinner, how am I going to be able to demand love and affection for all the hard work I put in?

[Lena gives her a playful nudge with her shoulder before pulling out a few spices from the pantry and a large wok from under the sink. Winston gives odd but wonderfully practical gifts.]

So, how spicy do you want it?

[As if pretending to put on a thoughtful sigh...]

You've got a point... Tricky girl. [And a small wink.] Hmm... I trust you. Surprise me.

[Just know your love and affection depends on how spicy it is.]

Oy, that's a dangerous thing you've just said.

[Still, Emily's from the British Isles and doesn't spend a good chunk of time around people with varied tastes, so it'll be a gentle kick of heat rather than a full roundhouse. The couch is comfy but she'd rather not be sleeping on it tonight.]

[She wastes no time getting oil in the wok, then some chicken, a selection of frozen veggies, some of the rice she makes ahead every week (the last thing you want to do after a day of hero-ing is make an involved dinner) and a few other goodies. No measuring cups or spoons, that just wouldn't be Lena.]

And here we have the amazing hero, saving dinner with a meal that's both delicious and healthy! Is there anything she can't do?

[And now Operation Make Emily Laugh has commenced in earnest.]

[Good choice. Emily did offer to at least help with dinner, but seeing as Lena seemed to have everything under control, she'll just take a seat at the table and watch in leisure.

With that, Emily just crack a grin, lightly rolling her eyes.]

Wow. My hero. Always in the nick of time. Without you, I'd be eating unhealthy food all of the time. Thank goodness you came to save the day.

[Not true. She mostly cook over eating out, but she'll play along. Not a laugh necessarily, but it's close enough.]

[It's a side effect of being a hero, Lena tends to want to take care of everything on her own, be it saving people from a burning building or making a meal.

[...and yeah, she's also trying really hard to impress Emily. That never stops for her. She leans away from the stove, that ever-present grin plastered across her face.]

See, and when you first met me you probably thought I was just another pretty face, didn'tcha?

[With a snicker, she returns to the food in the wok, stirring the food as it cooks.]

Huh. Do we have any wine that would go with stir fry? I'm lousy at pairing this stuff.

[In her defense, Lena's pairing food and wine typically stops with fish and chips complemented by a pint of bitter.]

[Lena, please... Let your girlfriend take care of you too sometimes.]

Actually... I was thinking that I was probably too drunk and I shouldn't be hitting on anyone in that state. But you're not wrong about having a pretty face.

[Their meeting was definitely more meaningful than that, but the mood was right for jokes. With the mention of wine though, she got up to go check what they had. It looked like their stock was running low, but luckily enough, she happened to find some Pinot Blanc.]

Does this work? We'll have to pick some more up soon.

[Sorry, that's a side effect of the hero gig. You're always convinced you have to help everyone else. Though she'll relent every so often for Emily. She's just... really stubborn.]

[Even if she made the statement first, there's a tinge of pink in her cheeks that she tries to hide by turning back to the stove.]

Hate to tell you love, but you're stuck with me now. No take backs!

[Lena had been drinking a bit too, but sobered right up when the pretty redhead came over and started talking to her. Sometimes she still couldn't believe it.]

Hmmm. Hopefully!

We could always nip out to the store in the morning, provided the world doesn't need saving before then!

[You have to take the opportunity when you give an opening like that, Lena. She's pretty happy with herself for getting that reaction.]

I wouldn't have it any other way.

[For now, she'll just add that to the grocery list on the fridge door.]

[She stumbles her way into those moments more often than she'd care to admit. Good thing she's okay with laughing at herself.]

Besides, I can't criticize you too much. I was the one who got snockered on our first anniversary.

[In her defense, it wasn't too long after The Incident so she celebrated a wee bit too much.]

And I think it's ready! I hope, at least. Time to see if I've still got it in the kitchen.
